Hey, I'm Marlin

I'm a Senior Product Manager at a payments startup and MBA grad from Duke and studied Economics at Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!). Prior to business school, I was a technology strategy consultant with EY and helped banks with their most pressing digital transformation challenges.

I love collaborating in team environments, simplifying complex problems, and bringing ideas to life. I'm a wannabe rockstar, coffee fanatic, aspiring photographer, fitness nut, world traveler with my amazing wife Kathryn, and lover of the great outdoors.

What I do

Spreedly

Senior Product Manager

Spreedly is a Payments Orchestration Platform that enables merchants to build highly customized payment flows using multiple payment providers. Spreedly offers a single API and reporting layer for merchants to integrate with 120+ payment gateways (i.e. Stripe, Braintree). Payment Orchestration is a lovely, growing niche that is rife with opportunity and both business and technical challenges.

As a Senior Product Manager leading Routing, our team helps merchants improve their authorization rates and integrate into our product easier. I've brought a number of new products to market from scratch, including a decline salvage solution and a no-code configuration layer.

What I've Done

Duke Fuqua School Of Business 😈

MBA: Product Management and Strategy, 2018-2020

Fuqua pushed me to grow immensely over two years. In leading the Design & Innovation Club, I strengthened my creative muscles and discovered a new-found obsession with design. I expanded my comfort zone by participating in a theater improv group, performing music in front of hundreds of classmates, and living abroad in Barcelona.

Fuqua enabled me to pursue my love of learning alongside inspiring peers.

Amazon Web Services 🚀

Senior Product Manager Technical Intern, 2019

I worked on Amazon WorkSpaces, a virtual desktop SaaS product. Workspaces is used to provision Windows or Linux desktops and can quickly scale to thousands of workers in a way that is affordable and secure.

I spent my summer researching a new user segment, crafting use cases, and designing the user experience and technical architecture for a new product offering. I also developed a proof of concept that the sales team used to pursue a new partnership. The market opportunity was evaluated to be at ~$120m.

EY - Financial Services 💼

Senior Strategy Consultant, 2016-2018

Served in a variety of digital transformation projects in strategy and operations focused roles at banks and FinTechs (such as CitiBank and Bank of America).

As a senior consultant, I created a marketing strategy aimed at growing mobile app userbase, prioritized innovative features (like Chatbots and FaceID) based on customer value, managed the project profit and loss statements, and presented findings and solutions in front of executives.

Technology Consultant, 2014-2016

Worked in product manager and business analyst roles, built a cloud-based mortgage platform that would process over $2.4 trillion of securities.

I spent my time writing user stories for software engineering teams, gleaning insights from data, and gathering business requirements and translating them into technical specs. The projects I worked on as a technology consultant were more hands-on and focused on implementation.

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University ⚡️

Economics, 2010-2014

It's no surprise to me that VT is consistently ranked top 10 for happiest students and best quality of life. In college, not only did I discover my passion for Economics, but I also explored by taking classes in creative writing, computer science, and my personal favorite - Geography of Wine.

I will forever cherish the time I spent in Blacksburg. Let's Go Hokies!
